DePauw's current email system, Novell GroupWise and TigerMail, needs upgraded. After having spent the past year studying viable options, Information Services is recommending that DePauw move to Google Apps for Education, a free suite of hosted communication and collaboration applications designed for schools and universities.
- Details about the recommendation
A printable document spelling out the proposed project in detail is available HERE.
If you are interested in exploring more about Google, you can find lots of information at Google Apps for Education.
Proposed Google Rollout Timeline
[NOTE: A proposed timeline has been adjusted. The current timeline is available at It’s Official – We’re Upgrading to Google Apps for Education.]
If we move to Google Apps, the rollout will be a stepped approach (1) Small pilot groups, (2) complete switchover of all student accounts, and (3) phased switchover of faculty and staff accounts. Throughout the transition Information Services will offer demonstrations and workshops to help everyone smoothly make the shift.
Fall 2009 | – Research students’ current usage patterns and needs – Research faculty/staff current usage patterns and needs |

As next steps, we will be working with key campus stakeholders (the ATAC, Student Government, Student Life, President's Cabinet, etc.) to ensure that we consider and address major concerns and vet the decision at all levels.
