Printer/Copier Replacements in Campus Departments are scheduled for November

Contributed by Lynda LaRoche, Assistant Director of Instructional & Learning ServicesCanon5035

The campus-wide Printer/Copier Replacement Project is on schedule and the departmental Savin units for faculty and staff members will be replaced with new Canon printer/copiers during November.

The following outlines two important things you must do before your printer/copier is delivered, as well as details about the roll-out schedule and orientation sessions.

Before delivery - Two things you should do:

  1. Get your new DePauw ID Card.
The new Canon printer/copiers will require the use of the new ID card card. This means anyone who will be using the new Canon printer/copier(s) will need a new ID card made before the installation of your new printer/copier(s). Contact Karen Martoglio on x4294 to find out the best time to stop by the HelpDesk to get your new ID card.

  2. Change your Network (Novell) password so you can use the new Canon printer/copiers.
The systems affected by this change include Moodle, network drives (such as the I:, P:, and U: drives), LDAP, TMA, ezproxy, iPrint and the new Copier/Printers. You can find information about how to change your password at http://www.depauw.edu/it/helpdesk/password.asp.

Orientation for using the  new Canon printer/copiers

Orientation for using the new printer/copiers has been scheduled throughout the month of November. On November 1, a full schedule will be available on DePauw’s Printer/Copier Help Site (coming soon). In the meantime, 30 minute sessions for those who receive their printer/copier during the first week of November are scheduled for Monday, 11/1, from 9 to 11 a.m., with a new session starting every 30 minutes, in the FITS Center located on the lower level of the Roy O. West Library.

We recommend that you participate in an orientation session prior to the delivery of your Canon printer/copier.

If you have a laptop, please feel free bring it with you so we can assist you with downloading the printer/copier drivers onto it while you are here.

During the installation process

During installation, Information Services staff and specialists from our vendor partner, Indiana Business Equipment, will be on hand to help you connect to the Canon units and answer any questions that you have.

Focus on Sustainability

Our goal is to engage the entire campus communityin learning to ‘print smarter’ and reduce printing waste across campus. The Canon printer/copiers will provide a number of features to support that goal, including:

  • The ability to scan directly to digital (e.g., scan to a USB drive, scan to email, etc.)

  • Duplex (double-sided) printing cabilities to conserve the amount of paper needed to print each document

  • Secure swipe-to-release printing, enabling you to send a print job that is held in a queue until that you arrive at the printer and swipe your ID card to actually release the print

As we roll out the new printer/copiers this fall we are collaborating with the Sustainability Office to help the campus take advantage of these new features and adopt printing practices that are environmentally sustainable.
