What is Geographic Information Systems (GIS)?

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a rapidly growing technology that combines tabular data in databases with computer mapping systems to interactively manage, visualize and analyze data both spatially and temporally.

GIS enables people to study data based on location facilitating comparisons and analyses of even disparate data and potentially revealing patterns, trends and/or relationships that may not have been discovered using traditional analysis methods.

About the GIS Center:

The DePauw GIS Center supports the use of GIS and other spatial technologies by faculty, staff and students in teaching, research and scholarship.  In particular, the GIS Center provides one-on-one consulting, offers spatial software workshops, hosts GIS events, supports GIS projects, and provides spatial software training.
